Landing Your Dream Job!

Today I attended a school seminar. Usually when you hear about a seminar you think of learning about boring information that will go in one ear and out the other.
 THIS WAS NOTHING LIKE THAT!!!
This particular seminar was extremely interesting. The title of the seminar;
"Why Didn't I Get Hired?"
speaks for itself.
True enough it can be rather discouraging going on interview after interview and still remain unemployed. Here in this blog post I'm going to provide you with some great tips to land your next job, let alone a job that you love.

  • SOCIAL MEDIA
Sure social media sites like Twitter, Instagram and Facebook are extremly popular and exciting to browse but having these specific sites can cause a lot of trouble as well. People often think when their not called back by a hiring managers after a interview it's because the company "decided to go with another candidate that best fit the description." Actually, in some cases that's absolutely true! That candidate is a person that knows how to represent not only themselves, but the company in a respectful manner. The real reason you aren't getting calls back after interviews links back to the information that you're posting on the internet. If you're looking to start a career, posting pictures of you smoking, drinking and partying at clubs with your friends on social media sites isn't the best route. Most people say "It's my twitter, It's my instagram, It's my facebook so I'll post what I want" *pause* Well that's fine but you'll also continue to be unemployed. It's nothing wrong with having fun and snapping photographs while in the process, but insert those pictures in a personal photo album at home NOT on the internet. However, you can learn to turn your negatives to positives. Just as much as social media sites can hurt you they can help you. Social media sites can help you build and establish your brand and network. Be smart when using the internet!

EXPERIENCE
Stop being lazy! Get out and start meeting new people. Employers love to hire active individuals. Make sure your resume isn't dull. Apply for internships and join student clubs and organizations at your college. Take internship offers, PAID or NOT! The experience will prepare you for the job that you plan to have. One thing you must remember...
EVERY INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITY WILL NOT BE PAID!
Start volunteering. Employers love hiring individuals that offer their time volunteering for companies. Volunteer work let's the hiring manager know where your heart is and if you're willing to go over and above while working for their company.
COMMUNICATION
It's very important to speak clearly while on a interview.
ABSOLUTELY NO SLANG!
You're not talking to your family and friends, this is your FUTURE employer.
MAKE EYE CONTACT!
Eye contact is a sign of confidence.
Use your manners; CONSTANT please and thank you's.
APPEARANCE
DRESS TO IMPRESS!
Make sure your clothes are IRONED!
Even if you'e applying to a company that can wear jeans to work,
NEVER WEAR JEANS ON A INTERVIEW!

Be care about what you wear when you pick up employment applications. You don't want to ask for an apllication in pajama pants, tight pants or sagging pants because without knowing, you could be asking the MANAGER for an application.
If you have any tattoos and/or piercings make sure they're COVERED
Employers won't take you serious with tattoos running down your arms and piercings popping out your face.
YOUR WORD
All you have in this world is your word.
Companies are looking for LOYALTY and CONSISTENCY
Business leaders aren't looking to hire individuals that take multiple days off work and decide to quit when the going gets tough.
