Interview with Rob Hill Sr.!

Last Sunday, I was given the opportunity to interview Rob Hill Sr! Rob caught my eye over a year ago with his heart felt quotes and twitter posts. After following Rob on twitter I decided to follow him on Instagram and reach out to him for a interview. After almost a year of trying to get in touch with Rob Hill Sr. for a interview I finally got in contact with him and we were able to chit chat about a lot of positive things!

Charisma: Who or what inspires you?

Rob: People! My son also inspires me. Seeing people trying to grow and the big expectations I have for myself inspires me as well. Mainly, the connection between people. I'm inspired by people period!

Charisma: When did you realize you had a passion for writing?

Rob: I've always had a passion for it. It has always been that friend that never told my business.

Charisma: Who is your favorite writer?

Rob: This may sound corny but, GOD! My mom, as well. I always loved the way my mom wrote. I'm also a huge fan of Victoria Christopher Murray! She's a great friend of mine.

Charisma: Do you have any upcoming projects?

Rob: Yes, actually I do! "The Missing Piece" will be released next year. It's an audio project and it's the sequel of "The Audacity Of A Good Heart" which was published by Atria Simon and Schuster.

Charisma: Where can fans download (buy) and listen to your work?

Rob: You can purchase my work on Amazon!

Charisma: What is your advice to young teens and men trying to accomplish their goals?

Rob: My advice is to always set fair expectations for yourself! Don't start small and never limit yourself.

Charisma: Okay, last question. Dear Chanel, was that about a real person?

Rob: (laughs) Yes but Dear Chanel, is about a combination of women I've dated throughout my lifetime. It's a message from the past. It's how I felt, what I aspired to be, what I wanted to work and a lot of other things.

Charisma: Once again Rob, thank you for taking time to interview with me.

Rob: No problem and thank you for extending your platform!

The Importance of Being Equally Yoked!

Being Equally Yoked Blog:

Let's face it, everyone wants to be in love. However, what's love when it's not being properly demonstrated?

"Do not be yoked together with unbelievers. For what do righteousness and wickedness have in common. Or what fellowship can light have with darkness?" 2 Corinthians 6:14

A lot of us have been in and out of love. STOP! WAIT! Have you ever asked yourself why it didn't work? I can't speak for everyone but I can speak on my own behalf. About three years ago, I tried the whole "meeting new people" thing over again. During the process, I came across two guys in particular and which this blog is based off of my brief experiences with them. The two stories are listed below:

(I will be using fake names in order to not personally identify the two guys)

Guy #1 (Marcus): I met Marcus through a close friend. At first things were going smooth with Marcus. We talked everyday, he was extremely funny, and overall he was a gentleman. Anyway, I talked to Marcus for a couple of months and we started spending time together which was great, at least that's what I thought. Well, one day I was at Panera Bread waiting on my order and a Jehovah Witness approached me. As a child, I was always told to respect my elders no matter the case but this situation was EXTREMELY hard, especially as a nineteen year old. The Jehovah Witness started off nice the she became overly aggressive. She began to asked me if I knew who created the world and do I believe in Jesus Christ and why? I tried to politely end the conversation but instead she insisted on explaining how I haven't been receiving the correct information about our creator. After leaving Panera Bread, I immediately called Marcus to tell him about what I had just experienced. After explaining the sorry to him, his response was: "Well, she's kind of right." After I asked him how he said "I just don't believe a N**** would die on a cross for some people he never even met." PAUSE! TIME OUT! Wait right the heck there. I couldn't believe what I just heard. I was in total shock that someone would dare speak that way about someone so precious and dear to me. GOD? The man that sacrificed his own son so that we could live! I had to follow up before ending the phone call by asking him "So you don't believe in GOD?" and his response was "I mean I believe in higher power" *Charisma Hangs Up* *Click* *Phone call and all communication is over* I couldn't even argue with Marcus because I was in total shock. I've never heard anyone speak that way about GOD. EVER!

Guy #2 (Keith): Keith was a family member of one of my friends. She kept telling me how he was so interested in getting to know me. Oh what the heck. It wouldn't hurt to make a new friend. Keith was a brain picker. He made you think! However, our last conversation was extremely irritating because I had just been through a similar situation not too long ago. Keith asked me did I believe in GOD. Of course, I told him yes! He then went on to ask why, so from there I went on to explain why I was a believer. After my response Keith went on to say "I don't think you really believe in GOD. I think you just believe in him because that's how you were raised. *PAUSE* After that I snapped! I felt like I had too and he got it twice as hard. He got a couple words for his foolishness and he even earned a couple words on Marcus's behalf since I didn't get a chance to let him know something.

Now back to the topic on why it's important to be equally yoked.

Would you ever want to be in a relationship with someone who's faith went in a total different direction than yours? Could you imagine going through life with a spouse that didn't know Jesus Christ for him or herself? Could you imagine being committed to someone with weak faith? Here's a better one! Could you imagine being with someone that didn't know how to pray? It's so important to be equally yoked especially when children start to come into the equation. You don't want to confuse your children with the beliefs!

You should want to be with someone that's on the same page as you especially, when it comes to Christ and your faith. Be with someone that will pray for you when you're too weak to pray for yourself. You should want to be with someone that will pull you closer to GOD and not draw you away from him. Be with someone that's happy and humbled to serve The Lord!

REMEMBER: IF HE OR SHE DOESN'T KNOW OR LOVE THE LORD HOW CAN THEY LOVE YOU?

Interview with Chance Cessna!

Everyone meet Chance Cessna! I came across Chance's Instagram account a couple months back and instantly fell in love with her posts! After reading a reposting some of her messages to my page, I decided to reach out to her for an interview. Chance was extremely nice and beyond a pleasure to work with. Check out the interview below to see what we spoke about!

Charisma: What is the importance of having a relationship with Jesus Christ?

Chance: I can explain the importance of having a relationship with Jesus Christ from a personal experience. On June 19th, 2011, I decided to surrender and give my life over to Jesus Christ. My mother and grandparents had all passed away with a couple years span. Not only that, I was also in relationship with a guy that had been cheating on me. I was extremely lost and broken and I had no where to go but, back to GOD. The Lord deliver us. He's the only one to save us!

Charisma: What was the inspiration behind Cookies, Cappuccino and Christ?

Chance: Cookies, Cappuccino and Christ was born on December 2nd, 2013. I was at home and I had been in prayer that morning and I was asking GOD what was next for my life. I had been visioning a women's ministry for a while but it wasn't clear. So on this specific day, I created a flyer with the date and time and I posted it on my social media. Once I posted the flyer, it immediately took off. However, I didn't put a location on there which caused women from all over the world such as Atlanta, Chicago, Washington D.C, Alabama and even Germany to inquire about the event.

Charisma: What advice can you offer to young women battling self-esteem issues?

Chance: Well, for many years I battled with self-esteem. I didn't have a healthy view of myself. But I learned when you learn to look into the eyes of Jesus instead of a man you will be better. Jesus reflects beauty and perfection so when you're truly looking in his eyes you have no choice but to see that within yourself.

Charisma: Do you have a youtube channel?

Chance: Actually, my youtube channel will be launching really soon. Like within a few weeks.

Charisma: What are your social media handles?

Chance: You can find me on instagram at @iamchancecessna, on facebook at Chance Cessna and I also have a fan page on there on there as well, and I have twitter, @Chancecessna. You can also view my blog on itsbychance.com

Please Save Me From Myself!

Save Me From Myself Blog:

Have you ever heard the quote, "ELEVATION REQUIRES SEPARATION"?

Sometimes we often hold on to "What it could be OR What it was be AS OPPOSED to What it is." As humans, it's natural to never want to let go. Especially, for those of you that aren't comfortable with change.

Rather you realize it or not, some of the situations we're in are our own faults! It's normal to get caught up in what's wrong and become a victim of undeserving behavior. You should never be comfortable with functioning in dysfunction! I cant stress that enough. We're now living in a world where calling your spouse disrespectful names is considered normal. Further more, we're living in a society where a putting your hands on someone in a disrespectful manner is considered a way of expressing love out of anger. These things are not okay!

Question: Well, if the relationship isn't right why won't I leave?

Great question! Well, here's your answer.

Some of us allow the disrespectful behavior because we love the convenience. We like the material things we're getting from that person. Not only that, we love their platform. Meaning we love where they are in life and we feel as long as we're linked to them we will enjoy the benefits as well.

Do you talk to yourself?

No, talking to yourself doesn't make you crazy! It's okay to sit down and ask GOD a simple question such as:

"PLEASE SAVE ME FROM MYSELF!"

If you're a firm believer in Christ, you already understand how important it is to pray certain things and people off of you. Especially, friendships and romance relationships. Sadly, some people just don't mean us any good and they prevent us from growing. Not only that, some people aren't comfortable with change, like I mentioned earlier. So therefore, they're willing to put up with almost anything not understanding how much it's really destroying them and breaking them down mentally. Secondly, it's okay to take it upon yourself to cut all ties and walk away from certain situations because some people won't leave your life until you leave them.

Example: Have you ever wanted a relationship to work out between you and someone you THOUGHT you really wanted?

Sometimes it's not all bad and you have to be appreciative. Maybe that relationship didn't work because he/she was abusive, He/She slept around a lot and was exposed to sexually transmitted diseases, He/She wasn't supportive enough and couldn't see your vision, He/She was a distraction and would simply slow you down and etc. (THINK ABOUT IT)

SAVE YOURSELF FROM TOXIC FRIENDSHIPS AS WELL!

Let go of the so called "friends" that are jealous of you and your accomplishments! Sometimes we don't even realize how jealous our "friends" are of us which is the exact reason why we would never expect them to try harm us or put us in a terrible position.

We need to learn to how stop trying to open doors that GOD already closed. If they're gone, it's for a reason. Sometimes the explanation and apology isn't needed. You have to let people venture off and do their own thing to save yourself!

It's nothing worst than wasted time and energy! Think about it.

Interview with Confidence Killion!

A couple days ago I got a chance to catch up with Confidence Killion, an amazing recording artist from Detroit, Michigan. After speaking with Confidence Killion and listening to his new single, "All Or Nothing" it's clear that Detroit is back on the rise musically!

Charisma: How long have you been interested  in music and when did you realize you had a passion for it?

Confidence Killion: I've been told that I was interested in music from my mother the moment I could I hear sounds. When she was pregnant she placed her headphones on her stomach while music would play and because of her doing that, I would kick rapidly in her stomach every time I heard music or singing coming from anywhere. I first realized music was my passion at age 7 during my very first talent show at Pepper Elementary School singing "Any Day Now" by my favorite artist Luther Vandross. It was my first time in front of an actual audience. The reaction and energy that I received from everyone gave me the best feeling I'd ever experienced and I knew from there on I wanted to perform for the rest of my life.

Charisma: If given the opportunity to collaborate with any artist, who would you choose and why?

Confidence Killion: If I had the opportunity to collaborate with any other artist it would be Usher and Ariana Grande. Usher has been one of my favorite artist since I can remember. His range and vocals are so dope to me, and I admire the fact that not only can he perform well on stage, he also sings and delivers great vocals at the same time.  Ariana Grande is my second choice because I really love the way she delivers vocally on her songs, she commits every time. I think we would sound really great together.

Charisma: Who or what inspires you?

Confidence Killion: I get inspiration from multiple artists. I enjoy discovering what makes different vocalist so great at what they do and applying it to myself while yet still making it my own. When it comes to my writing I use past and present experiences that have occurred in my life. I also find inspiration from other peoples situations like friends, family and people on social media.

Charisma: What inspired your new single, "All or Nothing"?

Confidence Killion: The inspiration for my single "All or Nothing" came from a past relationship that I was in. This song was actually recorded not too long after our split. During the time of the relationship, I felt like everything was at a stand still, things weren't getting better nor were they getting worse and I simply wanted more than that. That's where the phrase "give me your ALL OR NOTHING" came from.

Charisma: Do you have any upcoming performances?

Confidence Killion: Right now I'm mainly focused on finishing my EP Album and making sure everything turns out amazing. I want my next performance to showcase of all the hard work I've done and the new music I've created in best way possible.

Charisma: Where can all of the music lovers listen and download your music?

Confidence Killion: I actually just dropped my debut single "All Or Nothing" on soundcloud at https://soundcloud.com/confidencekillion/all-or-nothing
It's available for free download

Charisma: What are your social media handles?

Confidence Killion: You can find me on Twitter, Instagram and Snapchat under @ItsmeConfidence and my Facebook fan page is under I Support Confidence.

Charisma Covers The 2014 Be Bold Fashion Show!

Yesterday I was given the opportunity to cover the 2014 Be Bold Fashion Show hosted by Chigozie Uwazurike. Chigozie is one the three members that created YPVL which stands for Young Productive Vintage Life. The amazing event took place in Detroit, Michigan at the White House Night Club.

Charisma and Chigozie during the Be Bold Fashion Show.

Charisma: What inspired YPVL?

Chi: Well, actually YPVL was created by myself and two other members however, I'm the CEO. YPVL is more than a clothing line, it's a lifestyle. We're all so big on being positive and doing positive things. Hustling the right way!

Charisma: When did you launch YPVL?

Chi: It's been three years. We launched YPVL on August 25th, 2011.

Charisma: If you could design a piece of clothing for any celebrity who would you choose and why?

Chigozie introducing the next designer.
Chi: Diddy! Hands down, I'm his biggest fan. Diddy inspires me as a business man because, he backs up everything he says. I also would love to create something for Diddy because, he believes in potential. Whenever he sees something great he's willing to work with it. I also know Diddy, wouldn't want me to work for free.

Charisma: What was your favorite moment about the fashion show last night?

Chi: I really didn't have a favorite. I loved every moment! I loved seeing Jay Lee preform. Also, one of the designers weren't able to make it last night, so being able to fill in for him and taking control of someone elses clothing line was nice.

Charisma: Where can customers purchase YPVL?

Chi: Customers can send their requests with details (sizes, colors and etc.) via email to young.chi20@gmail.com and I'll send them a invoice.

Charisma: If up and coming fashion designers want to be featured in your future shows how can they inquire?

Chi: It's best to email me or send a direct message on instagram. I stay up to date with my social media so it's easy to contact me on there.

Charisma: What can the world expect next from YPVL?

Chi: Everyone can expect The Plug pt.2, it's a networking event. We had The Plug pt. 1 two months ago. Also, I'll be doing my second annual toy drive with Hot 107.5! Last year, we donated over six hundred toys. I'm really passionate about charity work because, it's no point of making moves if you're not giving back!

Breaking Unwanted Soul Ties and Reclaiming Your Energy!

Soul Ties Blog:

We don't need a rocket scientist to inform us that all energy isn't good energy! Have you ever took a minute to ask yourself how or why your life took a drastic change, and not in a good way?
Thinking to yourself:
1) Why am I always the one with a negative mindset or comments?
2) I try my best to be positive but somehow I always end up depressed?
3) Why am I losing friends?
4) Why do I feel so unmotivated and extremely lazy?
5) And etc.

To those of you that are reading this blog entry right now and you're sexually active, it's a possibility that you're feeling those particular feelings because you're not working off of your own energy. Instead you're feeding off of someone else's! Once you begin to have multiple sex partners it's easy to begin to lose yourself. SOUL TIES ARE REAL PEOPLE!

"Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ himself? Shall I then take the members of Christ and unite them with a prostitute? Never! Do you not know that he who unites himself with a prostitute is one with her in body? For it is said, "The two will become one flesh." 1 Corinthians 6:16-17

As we all know sex is actually meant for the married. However, as humans we tend to engage way before not actually knowing the consequences that would be placed upon us. If you're going to have sex make sure it's with someone that you love and you're one hundred percent sure they're going to have your best interest. Many people are quick to say "He's a guy! He just wants your goods and then he'll be off to the next." Well, that's not always true. Some guys are like that but NOT ALL OF THEM. Truth be told, you'll be surprised how many women have that same exact mindset when it comes to sex. Some women get the same thrill as men, not all of them but there are some out there.

There are no trial runs through life. Everything is either a dribble or shoot move and you must be prepared to live with your decisions after they're made.

Once the damage is done, it's all a life experience but it's okay to reclaim yourself and your energy! GOD loves you and he knows you're only human and you're going to fail him at some point or another. Step up to the plate and ask GOD for forgiveness! Ask him to renew you and your spirit! ASK HIM TO BLESS YOUR SOUL!

Interview with Mrs. Gina Prince-Bythewood!

It's not everyday that you get a chance to chit chat with a writer. Especially, the writer that wrote hit movies such as Love&Basketball, The Secret Life of Bees and Beyond The Lights. Well, I've been chasing this specific interview for almost a year now and I finally got it! Check out the interview below featuring the talented, Mrs. Gina Prince-Bythewood.

Charisma: How long have you been writing?

GPB: I've been writing all of my life. I've been writing short stories forever. My parents saved one that I'd written was I was nine years old. It was called "The Very Clever Turkey". It was about a turkey who pretended to be a pig on Thanksgiving to protect himself from getting killed for dinner.

Charisma: If you got a chance to collaborate with any writer, who would you choose and why?

GPB: Honestly, no one except for my husband, Reggie. He's a writer as well. Writing is very personal for me. I am telling a story from my head and it would be difficult to share that process but, Reggie and I help each other a tremendous amount. We help provide each other with inspiration and blunt honesty.

Charisma: What advice do you have for upcoming writers?

GPB: It's important to write what moves you, love what you do, be passionate, do research and write, write and write. Never be satisfied! Beyond The Lights took four years and fifty-five drafts and during that time there were a tremendous amount of "No's". Being passionate about the story helped me overcome those no's by fueling my fight.

Charisma: Would you ever consider writing television shows?

GPB: I've done television before. I started on A Different World, which was one of my favorite shows. I also wrote for a show called South Central which starred Larenz Tate and the series Felicity. I sold Love&Basketball while working on Felicity. I wouldn't mind going back to TV if it was cable, but nothing compares to seeing your work in a movie theater.

Charisma: What was the inspiration behind Beyond The Lights?

GPB: I wanted to write a love story and a music film. I attended Alicia Keys concert and while she was singing "Diary", the story character Noni came into my head. From there, I started fleshing out the story and incorporating things from my personal life that I wanted to explore, such things as being adopted and tracking down my birth mother and it not going well. All of that relates to the movie in some way. Example; Noni's mother had her at an early age and was abandoned. Se realized her only escape was through her daughters talent. But putting so much of your own self-worth into your child can be damaging and in this case, almost deadly.

Interview with DJBJ 3525

Today I had the pleasure of interviewing one of Detroit's most popular disk jockeys, DJ BJ also known as Mr. 3525!

Charisma: Who is your inspiration and why?

DJ BJ: My family! Mainly, my brother. He really inspires me to be better. Another thing that really inspire me is the area we came from.

Charisma: What is your biggest goal/dream?

DJ BJ: I want to accomplish a lot in my life but my main goal is to own my own radio station. I would like to have something online and also on xm radio.

Charisma: When did you realize you had a passion for music?

DJ BJ: My father actually use to own his own record store and he would always show me classic album covers. However, growing up I could never sing or rap but I still loved music so being a dj came naturally. I'm a very hands on person!

Charisma: Are you working on any music projects as of now?

DJ BJ: Yes! I'm actually working on my first album which will be titled either "3525 The Album or 2K14". I like 2K14 because I feel like it's going to be a really good year. I've already released over 160 mixtapes so I'm very confident about this album.

Charisma: How long have you been a dj?

DJ BJ: I actually started at the age of seventeen but I didn't begin to take it serious until I was twenty years old so that means I've been doing it professionally for about five years now!

Charisma: What do you like to do in your spare time?

DJ BJ: I'm a major studio junkie. I love being in the studio! I could just grab some food and chill in the studio all day. Other than that I like to relax! Honestly, there's no such thing as spare time because it's always something that needs to be done.

Charisma: What artist would you like to work with and why?

DJ BJ: I would like to work with the legendary females such as Foxy Brown and Lil Kim. Hov, of course. Rich Homie Quan. If given the chance I would really like to work with DJ Drama because he's a major inspiration and he switched the whole game as a dj.

Charisma: What advice do you have for young children/teens especially young men trying to accomplish their dreams?

DJ BJ: My advice is to stay motivated and try to motivate others. There's no better feeling than knowing you helped motivate someone to pursue something they've always wanted to do.

Charisma: Okay, last question. If you could help out the world in one way what would you do?

DJ BJ: If I could help out the world I would end racism because it still exist whether people believe it or not. I would like to be the voice of the youth and have to opportunity to educate.

Last month I was introduced to the lovely Eguono M. Ponius also known as "Uno". I met Uno at the 2013 Posh Amore Fashion Show where I participated as a model. I was so impressed with Uno's creativity with make-up and skin care that I had to ask her could I interview her for my blog!

Charisma: How long have you been a make-up artist?

Uno: My favorite make-up line is MAC and Urban Decay.

Charisma: Who is your favorite make-up artist?

Uno: My favorite make-up artist is Alexandra Butler. She's amazing!!!!

Charisma: If presented the opportunity to be a celebrity make-up artist, who would you make your primary client and why?

Uno: My primary clientele would be Queen Latifah and Jill Scott. The reason why is because they both are beautiful, have amazing features to work on and they both seem to be so humble.

Charisma: What advice do you have for future make-up artist trying to break into the industry?

Uno: The advice I have for future make-up artist trying to break into the industry is to first and foremost ALWAYS remain humble and treat people good. Be professional and have a good attitude, that is sooooo important. Always be willing to learn because make-up is trendy, everyone wants to be an artist. Study local artists and youtube videos are a great tool also!!!
